Down on the Farm

This 4th of July, my husband and I traveled with friends to visit our good friends (the kind of friends that might as well be family). It was one of those lazy weekends that involved copious amounts of alcohol, some seriously good food (our friend is a seriously talented chef, and gave us the works at the restaurant he currently works at, Fish & Game), amazing ice cream, lots of laughs, and a trip to a local farm. So, while I didn't get out for my usual hike, our trip the the farm was lovely (minus the walking through a working farm in sandals-- manure....) and this weekend was a much needed weekend off with some of the best people I know and love, enjoy some sights from the farm...
A barn swallow on its nest in a barn-- where it gets its namesake.
A nest constructed of mud, hay, spit, and hair provided by barn residents like...
... this gal.
It was also a hot weekend, this guy had the right idea.
The pigs were surrounded by mostly pigeons, starlings, and house sparrows, but also...
A killdeer!

Hawthone Valley farm was pretty cool, you can walk the ground, pretty much anywhere you'd like (watch out for the hotwire fences around animal areas, I didn't!), with some wild edge habitat for birds and snakes, there is plenty to walk and see!
