Thankful for Siskins

On Thanksgiving Day, I went down to Jones Beach with my husband. He did his pre-turkey run, while I birded. The pine trees on the parkway median were dripping with American goldfinches and red-breasted nuthatches. And if ou sifted through them diligently, a lovely little finch surprise!

A pine siskin or two with the flock of goldfinch.

These little, sharp-billed finches always show up here in the winter, sometimes just a few, other times in an irruptive fashion.

Plenty of red-breasted nuthatches this year. There seem tp be more than usual.

But this little siskin, made my morning. Every so often giving you a decent look before it jumped into the cones to feed.

A brilliant little finch. Very Thankful to see them.

Always sift your goldfinch flocks!
